Established on more than 16,000 m2 in La Colombière, Balmes 2 will also accommodate palliative care. Start of work in 2022.

A true “city of fragility” of the CHU, the Colombière site will have a new five-storey building of over 16,000 m2 by the end of 2024. Balmes 2, which will accommodate long-term care, but also palliative care, will be located in the immediate vicinity of Balmes 1, opened in 1998. This will allow for better care.
It is the SCP of architects Séquences, of Toulouse, which will ensure the project management. With four large patios and windows equipped with three windows each, it has privileged the light.
“Like Balmes 1, which has proven to be very adaptive, this building is designed to be scalable. We have also kept a land reserve on the top floor”, underlined Thomas Le Ludec, general manager of the CHU.
“Having these two complementary buildings on the same site is a huge asset in the care of the elderly”, underlined Prof. Hubert Blain, head of the gerontology center.
“We support all of the CHU’s projects,” said Michaël Delafosse, mayor of Montpellier and president of the Metropolis. All the elected representatives of the territory support the CHU through its White Paper, which sets the guidelines for the next fifteen. years. “
The start of work is set for the second half of 2022.
