This 20-year-old student who lives in Montpellier, in the Hérault, is a regular victim of a usurper who has been in the habit of defrauding the SNCF since August 2021, reports the local newspaper. Free lunch.
“This person uses my identity to travel without paying by train in the south of France, essentially,” he explains to the newspaper. Courses “quite close” to those he usually attends, “that’s why I think he is a person who must, in one way or another, be part of my entourage, even at a distance”, she supposes.
Fines of 300 euros that multiply
At each check without a ticket by the usurper, he communicates the name and surname of the student from Montpellier, who then receives the fine. A carousel that quickly appears: “To date, accumulating all the fines, the Treasury is asking me for the sum of 6,000 euros. Since 1 July 2022, I have received 35 fines of 144 euros at my personal home, which each time have increased to 300 euros. It’s unsustainable! the young woman confides. Despite two complaints filed, a letter to the public prosecutor and another to the SNCF mediator, Léa’s situation has not changed.
He escapes paying the fines for the moment, because “fortunately up until now the dates on which the fines were drawn up corresponded to periods during which I was in progress or in training”, but asks that measures be taken to prevent the scammer from continuing . Contacted by Midi Libre, the SNCF says it is “seizing the problem and implementing actions to resolve it, as quickly as possible”.
