Launched under a new enriched formula at the beginning of 2022, transport on demand (TAD) is a victim of its success in the Montluçonnaise area. It must be said that the concept has something to seduce with the possibility of calling, up to 2 hours before its departure, on a mini-bus to be transported, with some conditions however, from point 1 A to point B nationwide, including rural areas.
Result: while the public service delegation established between Montluçon co and Kéolis had counted on 67,000 annual kms in TAD, no less than 118,000 kms were carried out last year, and the estimates for 2023 even approached 150,000 kms traveled. Who says many more kilometers traveled, says a major additional cost for the community, 75,000 euros last year.
This is why, since April 4, new constraints have been introduced to limit the use of a device which tended to resemble, for some, a taxi service. The vice-president for transport in Montluçon community, Francis Nouhant.
These new measures have been applicable since April 4. An evaluation of their effects is planned in the coming weeks and depending on this, new measures could be taken in the coming months.
