The officials of the Ferrero plant in Arlon have not yet submitted an official plan for a restart of activities to the Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain (FAVV). The FASFC has confirmed this to the news agency Belgian.

The factory was closed on April 8 after multiple cases of salmonella were reported worldwide after eating the group’s chocolate products. However, there are at least once a week meetings between those in charge of the factory and experts from the FASFC to draw up a plan for the restart of activities, FASFC spokeswoman Aline Van den Broeck reports.
“As soon as Ferrero submits an application for admission, the FASFC has a legal period of thirty days to pronounce itself,” said the spokeswoman. “It is not our intention to let things drag on unnecessarily, but we will make sure that the conditions are complied with.”
Ferrero, for its part, had said on Tuesday that the company is working on ‘a concrete and accelerated plan to solve the problem of salmonella contamination in Arlon’.
Ferrero’s factory in Arlon was opened in 1989 and employs 725 people. The workforce can grow to 1,100 in peak periods.
