Monterrey loses its undefeated record after losing to Chivas

Monterrey broke its undefeated streak in the Clausura 2024 tournament after losing 2-0 to Chivas, this Saturday in a duel on matchday 13, where the Monterrey team committed an own goal and suffered the expulsion of two of its players.

Despite this result, Rayados remained the leader of the general classification, with 28 units. In turn, the red and white squad added 19 points and rose to eighth place.

In one of the most attractive duels of the day, held at the BBVA stadium, both teams were left behind in the first half, as they did not manage to hurt themselves.

However, the bad news for Monterrey came in the final stretch of the first half, at minute 45+2, when referee Adonai Escobedo sent off Gerardo Arteaga for insulting him, after he did not call a foul in his favor.

In the second half, those led by Fernando “Tano” Ortiz, despite having one less player, had greater control of the ball, but were unable to breach the red and white defense.

The game became even more complicated for Rayados in the 72nd minute, when Chivas took the lead (1-0) after an own goal by Héctor Moreno.

As if that were not enough, the Monterrey team was left with another element less at 82, when the whistler showed the red card to Jorge Rodríguez after committing a foul on Roberto “Piojo” Alvarado.

The rojiblancos took advantage of their numerical superiority and sealed the 2-0 victory at 90+3 through Ricardo Marín, giving the Rayados their first defeat of the tournament.
