Monterrey Defeats Inter Miami 3-1 in CONCACAF Champions Cup – Messi’s Absence Not Enough to Save Miami

Inter Miami is out with a heavy defeat in the CONCACAF Champions Cup quarter-finals. Mexican club Monterrey defeated Inter Miami by three goals against one in the second quarter. Despite the absence of superstar Lionel Messi, who was absent from the first leg due to injury, the American club was not saved. Monterey won 2-1 in the first leg to advance to the semi-finals with a total score of 5-2. Miami suffered a setback when Jordi Alba was sent off in the 78th minute.

Monterey opened up opportunities from the start and scored the first goal in the 31st minute through Brandon Vasquez. A huge mistake by Miami goalkeeper Drake Callender led to the goal. When the goalkeeper missed the ball from near the box, Vasquez caught it and easily hit the post. When the first half ended with this lead, German Berterame doubled the lead in the 58th minute with a bullet shot. Six minutes later, Jesus Gallardo scored the third goal with a clinical header from Berterame’s cross, and Messi and his team looked set for a humiliating defeat.

In the meantime, Jordi Alba gets a red card for grabbing Gallardo. However, Diego Gomes scored a consolation goal with a header from Messi’s free kick in Miami’s favor with five minutes to go.

The Mexican club won by trailing Miami throughout the game. Nine of their 17 shots hit the back of the net. In return, Miami fired five shots and only one went on target.
