Montauban. Pro D2: Sapiacans avoid the trap

With six points on the clock but two home performances which left the Sapiacan supporters a little on their hunger, the Montalbanais were expected yesterday in Drôme for the big party of the first pro match of the club. In the end, the Montalbanais impose themselves in the difficulty but what would have been said if they had not brought back the victory! With the wind in their backs, the Sapiacans are the first to be dangerous on a kick to follow taken up on the line by the defense of the premises (3rd). The pressure was total from the “greens and blacks” and Aviata Silago missed her first attempt at the foot (6th). The VRDR spoils two great chances in touch, and the Tarn-et-Garonnais are not more successful at the foot. After two failures, Maxime Mathy finally finds his sights to take a first advantage (6-0, 17th).

Logic will say some as the “greens and blacks” are above the lot, the Drômois being sanctioned too many times to be able to hope for something. What is more, the Checkers have all the trouble in the world to get out of their camp, unfortunately the Sapiacans (reduced to fourteen after a yellow card for Faitotoa Asa) do not take advantage of it. In a meeting that is very far from reaching the summits, the locals return to the match on their first penalty just before half an hour (6-3, 27th). The moment for the Valencia players to shift up a gear and to register the first try of the match on a splendid casserole dish and a penalty try, just after a new yellow card for Serge Sergueev (13-6, 33rd). Just before the break, the USM reacted well by registering in turn a strong test by Aviata Silago (13-13).

The logic respected

In the second half, against the wind, the Montalbanais multiply the offensives by hand and a breakthrough full of timeliness of Paul Graou allows the USM to regain the advantage by Jérôme Bosviel entered at the break (16-13, 48e). Opposite, Valence / Romans tries many things but the faults are always as numerous (key not found, throws in missed key), which gives an extremely chopped meeting, certainly indecisive but very far from being spectacular. In this little game, we feel that the points on the foot should not be overused and the VRDR takes the opportunity to equalize a quarter of an hour from the end (16-16). Fortunately, it is the Sapiacans who will, most logically in the world, better finish this meeting, first on a major action which allows Alex Luatua to put his own in front of the line (21-16, 68th ); then on a final test by Dimitri Vaotoa which allows the “greens and blacks” to remain undefeated this season after three meetings. Tarn-et-Garonnais finally rewarded for their efforts, as they have multiplied the initiatives (especially in the second half), most of which unfortunately did not go all the way. It will be necessary to confirm this state of mind as of next week vis-a-vis a formation which does not carry out the best beginning of championship of its history, namely Nevers.

driver> Something new for the pros bus. Arnaud Caron, who was until now the official driver of the Ultras Sapiac, was indeed in Valence, but as driver of the Barrière “Go Sapiac” coach for the Sapiac players. The man knows rugby well since he was a Verdun-sur-Garonne player himself, just last season.

supporters> Nine brave. They moved by minicar under the responsibility of the treasurer Franck Méric. There were therefore nine Montalban supporters in Valence, the supporters club being retained in Montauban by the celebration of 400 shots.

mistral> Weaker but very present. If it blew very hard on Thursday, at the time of arrival of the USM, it had certainly weakened last night but it was still very present in the precincts of the Georges-Pompidou stadium. It was also a little chilly, and nobody complained about it this Friday evening…

Jean-Frédéric Dubois (coach): “We were not afraid to play”

“We beat a very nice team that will bring down more than one here. They have an interesting game by touching the widths. They are efficient. I am very happy because we wanted to quickly make up for the two points lost last Friday. It’s done. We countered them in touch. We took 13 points at fourteen. We have to solve this problem wherever we play at fifteen. We were successful against. We were not afraid to play. We replied present in defense. We will have made a very good block only if we win against Nevers ”.

Stéphane Munoz (captain):

“An away win is expensive. It was a big fight and congratulations to Romans for his performance. We were there for 80 minutes and it paid off in the end. This is important because it strengthens ties. In this Pro D2, all points count ”.

Paul Graou (scrum half):

“I’m very happy to start outside. We had a good game and the group had fun and that’s the main thing. We managed the end of the meeting well. We remained united despite the boxes ”.

Jean-François Reygasse (president):

“It was complicated and all the more so since we played 50% of the first half at fourteen. We went to get the victory by doing the work, with intentions and a good touch. We are right. You have to stay humble because the season is long. Now, we will have to watch out for Nevers when we come back to earth. Valencia’s performance tonight enhances our victory. ”

Johann Authier (Valencia coach):

“We lost because we didn’t materialize our highlights and our touch was catastrophic. We stay at zero point and this is a bit annoying. We will have to get under way. I am a little angry because we lacked maturity, despite a great debauchery of energy. We have to be more serious. ”
