They were 550 to have pushed the door of the University of all ages of Montauban (Utam) last year. A real success.
After two years when the University of All Ages of Montauban (Utam 82), was forced to hold its general meetings by correspondence, due to the health situation, President Bernard Pouligny invited the five hundred and fifty members to meet at the Olympe theater de Gouges, this Thursday, February 9, for a friendly and festive general meeting.
A video montage first exposed the many activities offered to members of the association over the past year. About fifty conferences and numerous workshops on languages, reading, philosophy, economics and history (12 workshops per week, led by Jean-Louis Matharan, professor and historian) constituted the instructive component. Six outings and a week-long trip to the Baltic States provided moments of escape. But UTAM also offers sports activities. Members were able to hike 8 to 10 km every Monday within a radius of 100 km around Montauban, or for the less adventurous, walk 3 to 4 km every Tuesday, and 175 people were able to practice eight hours of gymnastics or yoga per week at a modest cost.
Concert and cake
The meeting granted discharge to the Chairman and the Board of Directors for their management, renewed the outgoing third of the directors and decided to maintain the amount of contributions at the same level. The annual general contribution has remained at €35 for nine years (€30 for the spouse) and the supplement for indoor sports remains at €80 per year.
After this statutory part, UTAM had reserved for its members a private concert by Lot-et-Garonne pianist Marco Poingt. This musician, gifted with extraordinary dexterity, made the audience travel for an hour through his multi-faceted musical world.
Then the participants were invited to go to the foyer of the Theater to share in the conviviality the traditional galette des rois which had been offered for the last time in 2020.
This assembly testifies to the excellent health of UTAM which has become, for several years, one of the most important associations of the department. It is open to all and allows everyone to adapt throughout life to the rhythm of the world, to keep in touch with their times, to fight against isolation, while maintaining their physical fitness.
