Until 22 September, in the old royal factory renamed 1706, Joëlle Faure brings to life the daily life of students in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Joëlle Faure, a photographer, is passionate about the history of Tarn-et-Garonne. In a new exhibition, she continues her project about the history of the school in Montauban since the town was founded in 1144. First, she wanted to give evidence to her family’s history, five generations of Faure on to live on the benches of Fau’s school.

“My grandmother went to the school for the first time in 1895 when the school opened. Today, it is the grandchildren’s turn. The first school was created in a family home today in which my brother lived in the city archives, a Protestant school, a secular school and a free girls’ school (Catholic) at the beginning of the 20th century, explains Joëlle Faure.

Madeleine back to school Proust

We find those of Marguerite and Yvonne born in 1919 and 1926 with the words of apology: “Sir, Marguerite often has colds and is growing too fast, she has stomach problems. Thank you all.”

This recreation of a classroom from the 1900s has it all. So the visitor is invited to count with sticks, find out the moral of the day, and try to do the scary dictation without fail.

So comes a problem (among many others): “Paris – Lyon = 512 km. A train leaves Paris at 6 am and travels at 56 km/h. Another leaves Lyon at 8 am and travels at 69 km/h. At what time and how far from Paris will they cross paths?”

This exhibition is the true Proust madeleine of the new school year. It allows us to reconnect with our memories, the smell of ink and polished desks, the sound of feathers on notebooks, rediscover our childhood soul and the time of chaos…

It takes place until Sunday September 22 at “1706”, a room built at the foot of the fortifications of the 12th century, an old royal factory, located at the Tontons Flingueurs roundabout.

Open from 2pm to 6pm Monday to Friday, September 7 and 8pm from 10am to 6pm at Fèis 400 Coups, September 21 and 22 from 10am to 6pm at Heritage Days. Free entry for individuals and groups. Contact: Joëlle Faure on 06 43 06 20 24.
