At a time when France is commemorating the 51st anniversary of the death of General Charles de Gaulle, the association “Presence and Aftermath of Gaullism”, chaired by Colonel Pierre-Yves Henry, and the departmental federation LR, chaired by Brigitte Barèges, had organized a ceremony in front of the Cours Foucault stele. Elected officials, friends of the movement and flag bearers were present despite the cold. In his address, Jean-François Garrigues, after recalling the words of Georges Pompidou “France is a widow”, added: “Gaullism, many claim it in order to give themselves a moral guarantee, some appropriate it to have a good conscience, but few commit themselves for the good of France. Gaullism does not overdo itself, does not declare itself, it encourages the audacity, the audacity of the call of June 18, the audacity to face with lucidity decolonization, but above all the audacity to receive, 15 years after the end of the second world war, Chancellor Adenauer at the Tapestry. Let us keep in mind the precepts that the General was able to transmit to us. At a time when France is facing an identity and communitarian crisis, a decline in its foreign policy, a deteriorating social climate and an unprecedented industrial dependence, let’s keep in mind that France is great and Gaullism more contemporary than ever”. After the laying of sheaves at the foot of the war memorial, a minute of silence was observed, followed by the singing of the Marseillaise.
