Montana Tech: Subsidiary Varta joins Apple’s eco-alliance

The Montana Tech subsidiary Varta has committed itself to switching entirely to renewable energies as a supplier to Apple. This was announced by Apple manager Sarah Chandler on Wednesday in Berlin at the “Electronics Goes Green” conference of the Fraunhofer Institute IZM.

With the statement by Apple’s environmental expert, it was officially confirmed for the first time that the S-Dax listed battery manufacturer is an Apple supplier. Previously, there had already been rumors that the batteries in the Apple AirPods headphones came from Varta.

Chandler said that in Germany, the suppliers Henkel and Tesa SE are also working on converting their production for Apple entirely to renewable energies. This also applies to ST Micro in France, Solvay in Belgium and DSM in the Netherlands.

Apple wants to be completely climate-neutral by 2030. In ten years, every Apple device will be manufactured without CO2 pollution, said environmental director Lisa Jackson in July of the German press agency.

The iPhone group wants to reduce the emission of climate-damaging carbon dioxide by 75% – and compensate for the rest with solutions for binding the greenhouse gas. Apple already operates its offices, data centers, and its own manufacturing facilities with renewable energy. Among the suppliers, 70 companies have now committed to switching to renewable energy sources.
