Voracious monsters can invade your body without you even realizing it. These sneaky viruses, bacteria or parasites secretly hitch a ride with you and feast on your blood, your food or worse: your organs.
Or they trigger a response that causes the body to launch into a violent autoimmune reaction with all the damage that entails. Once the monsters are in your body, they are often difficult to get out. In Monsters Inside Me, a number of terrifying incidents are told of these types of uninvited guests who seriously wreak havoc on our bodies. Like Keira Echols, who out of nowhere gets massive headaches and even hallucinatory delusions. Doctors first suspect a mental illness until they discover that a parasite is causing her brain to be eaten. In the case of 8-year-old Ethan Conley, it is a harmless flu virus that attacks his muscle tissue. Doctors can’t do anything in this case and can only hope that his immune system will be able to get rid of the virus on its own. It becomes a literal battle to the death.
“Monsters Inside Me,” airing Monday, October 16 at 11:30 PM on TLC.
