A monster is a monster. Manchester City’s leading striker Erling Holland (23, Norway) set a new record for the fewest goals in English professional football Premier League (EPL) history with his 50th goal.

Holland scored his 50th goal in history in the 2023-2024 EPL round 13 home game against Liverpool held at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester, England on the 25th (local time). In the 27th minute of the first half, he scored the first goal with a left-footed shot into the corner of the goal from the penalty box in front of the goal, giving the team the lead.

Holland, who joined Manchester City last season and entered the English stage, set a new record for the fewest games played in this category with his ability to score 50 goals in 48 EPL games. The previous record was 65 games by Andy Cole (at Newcastle at the time), but Holland beat this record by a whopping 17 games.

Holland, who played in 35 games last season after debuting in the EPL, scored 36 goals, the most in a single season in EPL history, to become the top scorer. He is also the leading scorer this season with 14 goals in 13 games. Muhammad Salah (Liverpool), who scored 10 goals, is in second place, while Son Heung-min (Tottenham) and Jared Bowen (West Ham) are tied for third place with eight goals.

Among players who have scored more than 40 goals in the EPL, Holland also takes the shortest time to score each goal. Holland scored a goal every 77.55 minutes while scoring 49 goals until the previous game. Second place is Sergio Agüero (retired) with 107.92 minutes (184 goals), and third place is Thierry Henry (retired) with 121.79 minutes (175 goals). Among active players, Harry Kane (Bayern Munich), who left for Germany this season, is ranked 4th overall, hitting the net every 126.47 minutes (213 goals).

Holland’s next goal is to score his 100th goal in EPL history. If he maintains his current destructive scoring ability, Holland will likely rewrite this record as well. Currently in first place is ‘legendary goal scorer’ Alan Shearer (retired) with 100 goals in 124 games. Second place is Kane, who achieved 100 goals in 141 games.

However, despite Holland’s performance, Man City was unable to maintain victory. In the 35th minute of the second half, when Man City was leading 1-0, Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold scored the equalizer to tie the game. Manchester City, which recorded a 1-1 draw, gave up its lead with 29 points (9 wins, 2 draws, 2 losses) to Arsenal (30 points, 9 wins, 3 draws, 1 loss), which defeated Brentford 1-0 that day.
