“Monster from the Morgue” David Fuller: NHS Failures and 15 Years of Unnoticed Sexual Abuse

“Monster from the morgue” David Fuller has been able to perform insane acts of will for 15 years without being suspected or caught due to “serious failings” in the hospitals where he worked, an investigation found. This was reported by the Daily Mail.

The necrophile, a father of four, is sexually abused the bodies of at least 101 women and girls between the ages of 9 and 100. He was an employee of the now defunct Kent and Sussex Hospitals and Royal Tunbridge Wells Hospital in Pembury between 2005 and 2020.

The 69-year-old maintenance worker is already serving a life sentence for being sexually motivated murders of Wendy Knell, 25, and Caroline Pearce, 20. He attacked the two girls separately in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, in 1987. Police then uncovered his systematic sexual assault in hospital morgues.

The government launched an independent inquiry in 2021 to investigate how Fuller was able to commit the crimes and remain undetected. The first phase of the investigation focused on his employer, Tunbridge Wells, part of England’s National Health Service.

Fuller was able to “operate unnoticed” against the background of shortcomings in the “management” of the hospital.

The Daily Mail said senior hospital bosses had been “aware of the morgue’s management problems since 2008”. Standard employee screening procedures were not followed. That’s what the new investigation found.

There was “little consideration” given to who had access to the morgue, Daily Mail reporters said. They point out that within 1 year, Fuller visited the morgue 444 times.

“The crimes that Fuller has committed are truly shocking and he will never be released from prison.”. This was announced at a press conference in Westminster by the head of the investigation, Jonathan Michael.

“Failures of management, regulation, failure to follow standard policies and procedures, along with a persistent lack of oversight, contributed to the creation of an environment in which Fuller was able to defile corpses for 15 years without ever being suspected.”adds Michael.

“Over the years, opportunities to question Fuller’s work practices have been missed. He regularly worked outside of his agreed working hours, taking on tasks at the mortuary that were not part of his duties.”he commented.

Fuller was not linked to the murders of Wendy Knell and Caroline Pearce until 2020, when investigators searched his home and uncovered almost 900,000 files in which he abused the corpses of women between the ages of 9 and 100, the Daily Mail reported.

A search of Fuller’s computer at his home revealed 818,051 images and 504 videos of his abuse, as well as evidence of his “persistent interest in raping, abusing and murdering women. His victims included nurses, teachers, a pilot, a skier, a war veteran, wives and mothers. Many had defibrillators and catheters on them at the time Fuller messed with their bodies, reports the Daily Mail.

Among those whose bodies were abused by Fuller was a 92-year-old Second World War hero who worked at Bletchley Park.

“Fuller committed the most heinous crimes, something our family has to live with every day.”says the victim’s daughter.

In 2020, Fuller admitted to murdering Wendy Knell and Caroline Pearce in 1987 after brutally beating and strangling them to death.

Knell’s body was found in her bed on June 23, 1987, while Pearce, who was attacked just steps from her front door on November 24, was found three weeks later on December 15, wearing only a pair of tights, in field in Romney, Kent.

Their horrific deaths have become one of the UK’s longest unsolved double murder cases.
