This March 17th we had the first release of the year from the Italian developer Milestone S.R.L., Monster Energy Supercross 5. The studio is well known for many motorcycle racing games, both motocross and MotoGP, in addition to Hot Wheels Unleashedreleased in 2021.

Monster Energy Supercross 5 is available for PC, PlayStation 4 e 5, XBOX One e Series X | S.

MONSTER ENERGY SUPERCROSS 5 ANALYSIS

First of all, I make it clear that this was the first game in the Monster Energy Supercross series that I had access to, despite already being the fifth in the franchise. Therefore, my analysis will be from the point of view of someone who is not used to the style.

gameplay

That said, I have a few points about the gameplay. For having as proposal to simulate a competition of supercrossthe physical and mechanical aspects are extensively worked out and highlighted.

In this way, for someone not experienced in the style, even in the easy mode, appropriate according to the game for those who are not familiar with the game, this is a game quite complex. I crashed a lot and many times I couldn’t even be competitive in races because I couldn’t master the bike.

But I understand that despite my disability, the rigor of physics and mechanical detail are elements that make the experience well for fans of the series and are very well crafted.

Even so, I emphasize the strangeness in relation to the artificial intelligence, which constantly generates crashes and tumbles, and achieves accelerations in unlikely points.

Simulation in the sensory aspect

Graphically, we have a good result delivered by Monster Energy Supercross 5. The atmosphere of the stadiums and the details of them were done with rigor, allowing very beautiful scenes. The richness of detail on the bikes and riders is also a highlight.

The soundtrack is good and talks a lot with the theme, but it often ends up muffled by the noise of the engines, which is acceptable.

Here I comment a little about my experience, emphasizing that at times I felt nauseated. I believe that this happened due to the frequency of jumps and curves, combined with the loud noise of engines added to the music.

game modes

One of the biggest hits in Monster Energy Supercross 5 are career and multiplayer modes. Career mode allows you to escalate your journey through the supercrossgrowing as you learn and make new improvements.

The multiplayer mode, especially in its local option, allows for fun that, from what I researched, was not possible in previous editions. Split-screen mode allows for good matches in a well-executed way.

VERDICT

Despite my lack of familiarity with the genre, and the problems reported, I was surprised by the concern to create a well-executed simulation as in Monster Energy Supercross 5.

From the player’s point of view, these details are quite noticeable. However, when we design the experience for the other competitors on the track, the simulation loses some points.

Also researching the previous editions of the franchise, one can see little evolution, remaining the great highlight even in relation to the local multiplayer mode.

Despite my experience, I can confidently recommend Monster Energy Supercross 5 for fans of the genre, as they are certainly already prone to the loud sound of the engines and the frequent camera swerves.
