On the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Holy See and Algeria, the Vatican Undersecretary for Relations with States and International Organizations, Monsignor Paul Richard Gallagher, pays a two-day visit to Algeria.

The Vatican Undersecretary for Relations with Nations and International Organizations, Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, is visiting the North African country of Algeria.
He began this visit on Tuesday (25/10/22) on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Holy See and Algeria.
The programs of Archbishop Gallagher’s first day visit included special meetings with Algerian President Abdelmajid Tebouneh, Foreign Minister Ramthane Lamamra, Interior Minister Brahim Merad, Minister of Religious Affairs Youssef Belmehdi and the rector of the Great Mosque of Algiers, Mohamed Mamoune El Kassim El Hassini. On the second day, Wednesday 26 (26/10/22), he will visit the Tibirene Ashram, meet diplomatic and civic officials and hold talks with local assembly representatives.
Diplomatic relations between Algeria and the Holy See were established in 1972. Although Algeria is an Islamic country, the Holy See maintains good relations with it.
