By opting for the New York FC club, Monsef Bakrar joins a very restricted circle of rare Arab and Algerian players to have played in the MLS championship.
Before him, the international goalkeeper Rais M’Bolhi opened the ball in 2014, playing for one season in the ranks of the Philadelphia Union. Then, it was the turn of Saphir Taider to taste the sensations of the United States championship during his two visits to FC Montreal (2017-2018 and 2019-2020).
Arrived last week at his new team, Bakra spoke about his first steps with the NYFC. “My debut is going very well. I was well received. I work in good conditions, in a good group. I have many friends who encouraged me to come here. I’m in a very nice city, in the squad of a big club which has a great following. I have no complaints,” the Algerian player told the club’s official page. “I am discovering a new world of football here which is very different from what I got to know in Croatia. I would not hesitate to work hard to impose myself and honor my contract,” he added.
