Monreal Eyes $15 Billion Reallocation from PEF 2025

The coordinator of the Morena bench in the Chamber of Deputies, Ricardo Monreal Ávila, announced that in the Federation Expenditure Budget Project 2025 there could be reallocations of between 12 thousand and 15 billion pesos, which would be allocated preferential to higher education, countryside, roads, armed forces and culture.

He confirmed the cut to the National Electoral Institute, despite the fact that it will organize the extraordinary election of judges, magistrates and ministers.

“I estimate that we could reallocate resources in the order of 12 to 15 billion pesos, and that we prioritize public universities to compensate them for the resource that did not appear and that at least be the same as last year with the increase in inflation,” Monreal indicated. meeting with the media.
Likewise, said the president of the Political Coordination Board, with the eventual budget reallocation, “the issue of the countryside, the issue of water, the issue of road infrastructure, the issue of compensating and completing what was taken from The Armed Forces also suppressed them. And the issue of states and municipalities that they may have.”

In addition to these items, Monreal pointed out that the cultural sector will not be neglected in the PPEF, that “it is essential and cannot be postponed,” although he admitted that “the amount I am talking about is not large (in reassignments), but it is important.” .

When asked if there will be any increase in security funds, the Moreno member indicated that the budget “must be approved and then see where we cut from. Remember that it is a single budget: taking from one is giving to another, or giving to one is taking from another.”

The extension requested by the INE, “amenable”

On the other hand, Monreal considered that the 90-day extension requested by the National Electoral Institute to hold the elections for judging persons – which would be delayed from June 1 to September 1 of next year – is “affordable and respectable.” although in any case he spoke out against postponing the date.

In this framework, he recalled that “for the extension it is essential to modify the Constitution; It is not an agreement of the Senate, it is not an agreement of the Chamber of Deputies, remember that it is the Constitution that specifically defines the day of the election, the first Sunday of June.

-Would it have to happen by September? –he was asked.

-The constitutional reform that will be proposed, if accepted by the majority, would have to go through a process of constitutional change to only change the date of June 1.

-Is it affordable for you?

-He is respectable, respectable, I do not disqualify him. I simply believe that we are going to carry out this unique, unprecedented elective process in the history of the country.
