As COVID remains strong in Southern California, there is now a new public health emergency on top of the pandemic two years ago.
Governor Gavin Newsom has declared a state of emergency for monkeypoxas cities and counties are working to bring in as much vaccine as possible.
The emergency declaration was made in many ways to give state and health officials a chance to get ahead of this.
Until Monday, at 9 am, there were 400 confirmed cases of monkeypox in Los Angeles County. The surge in confirmed cases prompted Los Angeles Board of Supervisors President Holly Mitchell to issue a local emergency proclamation. The board will vote on this matter on Tuesday.
Actions at the state and county levels are aimed at cutting red tape.
West Hollywood City Councilman John Erickson issued a series of tweets announcing a pop-up vaccination clinic which will launch Wednesday at the West Hollywood Library’s Community Meeting Room.
County public health officials have not yet released information about the clinic.
The authorities published an advisory on monkeypox indicating that clinics will open without an appointmenta at the Balboa Sports Complex, Market Street Center, Ted Watkins Memorial Park and Obregón Park.

Last week, West Hollywood held a community meeting on monkeypox, and late last month, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health expanded eligibility to get vaccinated.
The shots were given by invitation only because the demand for the vaccine was greater than the supply.
