The Ministry of Health and Social Protection announced this Tuesday, December 27, through a statement, that the monkeypox research protocol in Colombia continues to advance and according to the guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO), This procedure would allow the country to arrive and apply 25,000 doses.
Priority for vaccination would be given to people who identify as homosexual or bisexual, men who have sex with men (MSM) or other individuals with multiple sexual partners, who would be at high risk of contagion, according to studies conducted by WHO . .
On the other hand, healthcare workers at high risk of exposure they would also have priority for the application of this vaccine.
The WHO has previously recommended that neither Colombia nor any other country should carry out a mass vaccination procedure. Currently, the risk of contagion is not high and depending on the epidemiological behavior and the availability of the organic, this measure could be modified.
The research and vaccination process is developed by the Colombian Ministry of Health and has the collaboration of the Japanese government in carrying out these operations.
“The Ministry of Health and Social Protection has announced the advancement of technical tables between specialists from the ministries of health of Japan and Colombia define the research protocol which, within the framework of the provisions of the World Health Organization, will allow the arrival and application of 25,000 doses of monkeypox vaccines and care for groups at risk,” quotes the statement released by the country’s Health Portfolio.

According to the latest report from the National Institute of Health (INS), until Monday 26 December, there were 4,021 cases confirmed cases of monkeypox in the country. Of these, 3,915 people recovered, most of whom were from Bogotá (1,936) and Antioquia (1,133).

Of the 4,021 cases reported by the INS, a total of 3,915 patients recovered and of this total, only 8.9% required hospitalization.
