Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – The vaccine for monkey pox (monkeypox) which is currently available in Indonesia is currently being given priority to vulnerable groups. A specialist in internal medicine and consultant for tropical diseases and infections from RSUPN Dr Cipto Mangunkusumo (RSCM), Dr Robert Sinto SpPD, K-PTI, explained that this prioritization aims to ensure that vaccines, which are limited in quantity, are used as optimally as possible for people who need it.
“Access to the monkeypox vaccine is currently not as free as the Covid-19 vaccine which during the last pandemic was given to all levels of society without regard to priority. “The government is currently determining priority groups that will get access to the monkeypox vaccine,” said Robert in an online discussion with the DKI Health Service in Jakarta on Thursday (19/10/2023) as quoted by Antara.
Another reason for not fully opening up access to the monkeypox vaccine is because there are many other steps that people can take to prevent transmission apart from administering the vaccine.
“We can also prevent transmission without a vaccine. “There are many steps that can be taken,” explained Robert.
One preventive measure that can be taken is to maintain personal hygiene and health and avoid close contact and sexual relations with monkey pox sufferers.
“This is something we need to do, with or without the availability of vaccines that the government has prepared for us,” he said.
Previously, the Ministry of Health reported a new case of monkey pox in DKI Jakarta on October 14.
The patient was confirmed to be infected with monkey pox after going through a series of tests and is a native of DKI Jakarta. The patient also has no history of travel abroad or out of town.
With the discovery of this new case, there are now two cases of monkey pox in Indonesia after the first case was discovered on August 20 2022.
