Jakarta: The DKI Jakarta Health Service (Dinkes) has administered the first dose of monkeypox vaccination to at least 495 people. Meanwhile, the second dose was given to 416 people.
This vaccination step is specifically aimed at groups who have had close contact with patients. Head of the Surveillance, Epidemiology and Immunization Section of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Health Service (Dinkes) Ngabila Salama said that as of December 8 at 19.00 WIB, 44 positive cases of monkey pox (monkeypox/mpox) had been recorded since October 2023 in DKI Jakarta.
“All of these cases are mild and all patients were infected through sexual contact. “All the sufferers are men with an age range of 25-50 years,” said Ngabila, in Jakarta, Sunday, December 10 2023.
Of the 44 patients, 34 people have been declared cured, and 10 others are still being treated. However, five of them are undergoing independent isolation and five others are being treated in hospital.
Previously, the Head of the Communications and Public Services Bureau of the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes), Siti Nadia Tarmizi, calmed the public by reminding that monkey pox does not have the ability to spread quickly like Covid-19.
“We urge the public to continue implementing clean and healthy living habits (PHBS) to prevent the spread of disease,” said Nadia. (Happy Saragih)
