Sarolangun – The Sarolangun District Health Service, Jambi Province, issued a warning to the local community to increase awareness of monkey pox, or monkeypox. Although there have been no reported cases in Sarolangun, this precautionary step was taken following reports that the disease had entered Indonesia.
Head of the P2P Disease Control Prevention Division of the Sarolangun District Health Service, Harta Saputra, on Friday (24/11/2023), stated that although there have been no cases in Sarolangun, his party is still trying to prevent the spread of this disease. “We always appeal to the public to be aware of monkeypox disease, according to directions from the Province and the Center,” said Harta Saputra.
Saputra also emphasized that monkeypox disease can be transmitted through direct contact with infected people, similar to how HIV-AIDS is transmitted. He appealed to the public to avoid risky sexual behavior that could increase the possibility of transmission.
The initial symptoms of monkeypox, according to Saputra, include a rash on the face and festering lumps where smallpox grows, including on the face and other body folds. The Sarolangun District Health Service invites the public to immediately contact the nearest health facility if they experience these symptoms.
It is hoped that this preventive and educational step can protect the people of Sarolangun Regency from the spread of monkey pox disease, as well as reduce the risk of transmission if the disease enters the area.
