Apart from alerting health services, hospitals and community health centers, the West Java Health Service has also prepared a special team with experts in infectious infectious diseases at Hasan Sadikin Hospital (RSHS).
This special team is used to inform all hospital managers about the management of referrals and treatment of Mpox patients.
“Not all cases were referred to Hasan Sadikin, but all hospitals are actually capable of treating monkeypox. Because monkeypox is caused by a virus that actually heals itself with good immune system, almost the same as chicken pox,” explained Vini.
Vini said that apart from issuing a circular to increase awareness and forming a special team to handle Mpox disease, the authorities were intensively tracing close contacts at the beginning of the transmission of this disease.
This action is focused on the case of a 36 year old male patient who was positive for Mpox who was referred to Hasan Sadikin Hospital on Tuesday, October 24 2023 from the Pasirlayung Community Health Center, Bandung City.
Vini emphasized that tracing was most likely carried out around the Pasirlayung Community Health Center.
“Actually, Hasan Sadikin received news from the Ministry of Health, we immediately held a joint meeting with the Bandung City Health Service. For us, the purpose was to remind and spread the word that (Mpox) had entered West Java to all districts/cities,” said Vini.
Furthermore, Vini added, the Bandung City Health Office conducted an epidemiological survey of Mpox cases in Bandung.
One of the steps in this epidemiological survey is to track the triggers for infections caused by the Mpox virus.
The aim of this tracking is to break the chain of spread of the virus, whether from the family, community or other groups who have had a history of close contact with Mpox positive patients.
Until now, it is not yet known what caused Bandung City residents to test positive for Mpox infection. However, Vini said, the treatment history could be known clearly.
“The patient initially went to the Mawar Clinic, because there were no changes (then) went to the Pasirlayung Health Center. And, from the Pasirlayung Health Center, he was referred to (RS) Hasan Sadikin, that was the beginning. The first time he went to Hasan Sadikin was on October 23,” said Vini .
