Monkeypox Cases in West Java: Current Concern and Treatment Updates

BANDUNG, KOMPAS.com – The West Java Health Service said that as of Friday (10/11/2023) there were four confirmed cases of monkeypox or monkeypox.

Head of the Disease Prevention and Control (P2P) Division of the West Java Provincial Health Office, Rochady Hendra Setya Wibawa, said that of the four confirmed cases, one had been declared cured.

“One patient in Bandung City was declared cured. Meanwhile, one patient in Bekasi City, Depok City and Cirebon City is still undergoing treatment,” he said when contacted, Saturday (11/11/2023).

He explained that one patient from Karawang Regency was not included in the West Java Health Office’s records. This is because the patient has settled and worked in Jakarta.

“In the case of one person with KTP Karawang, he was reported to DKI Jakarta and has recovered,” he said.

The increasing cases of the spread of monkey pox in West Java is a current concern.

The West Java Health Office continues to monitor the development of this case by tracing the close contacts of positive residents.

“Close contacts are monitored for 21 days. If there are symptoms, we will check them later,” said Rochady.

He explained that the condition of the positive patient who was still isolated was in good condition. They are currently undergoing isolation in their respective regional hospitals.

“This disease heals itself, but the recovery takes a long time, between 21 and 28 days, so it can be treated at home as long as the patient is disciplined,” he said.

“Unlike Covid-19, which has severe symptoms, monkey pox is not serious. But because the healing process is long, 30 days at home, afraid of getting bored and wandering outside, it could spread the infection,” added Rochady.

Regarding vaccination of residents, Rochady admitted that he could not decide yet. The reason is that coordination must be carried out with the Ministry of Health regarding this step.

“This vaccination is still being coordinated with the Ministry of Health, yesterday because there were no cases, vaccination was not carried out,” he concluded.
