Experts say monkeypox poses low risk of disease to the public
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, LONDON — A total of 71 more cases monkey pox have been identified in the UK, bringing the total number of cases to 172, the UK’s Health Safety Administration said Monday (31/5/2022).
The largest cases are in England, but there are currently four in Scotland, two in Northern Ireland and one in Wales. Authorities have asked citizens to watch out for new rashes on their bodies
If they have been in contact with someone with monkeypox to voluntarily self-isolate for 21 days. Ruth Milton, medical adviser to the UK Health Safety Board, said: “We are reminding people to watch out for new spots, boils or blisters anywhere on their body.”
Experts think the risk of this infection to society is low, as most people only develop a mild illness and recover within a few weeks. Monkeypox is transmitted from person to person through close physical contact, including sexual intercourse.
