Monkeypox cases in Spain rise to 84 cases

MADRID (ANTARA) – Spanish health authorities reported 25 additional cases of monkeypox on Thursday, bringing the total at one of the main points of the current outbreak to 84.

The Ministry of Health now considers all smallpox infections that are not of human origin as monkeypox after testing positive even though previously only counting confirmed cases through massagers.

According to him, there are 73 suspected cases of monkeypox.

Health Minister Carolina Darias on Wednesday said Spain would buy the monkeypox vaccine as part of a joint EU vaccine purchase and ensure that the west African variant, which has a mortality rate in about 1 percent of cases, is detected in Spain.

Spain, Britain and Portugal have the highest cases of the current outbreak of the disease, which is usually mild outside of its endemic areas in west and central Africa.
