Monkey Pox Outbreak in South Jakarta: Hundreds Vaccinated by South Jakarta Health Department

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The South Jakarta Health Department immediately vaccinated hundreds of residents after seven cases were discovered monkey pox or monkeypox in this region.

Head of the South Jakarta Health Service, Yudi Dimyati, stated that vaccination had been carried out for one week.

“Monkeypox vaccination will be carried out on 23-30 October 2023. Specifically for South Jakarta, we vaccinated 189 people,” he said when contacted, Tuesday (31/10/2023).

Yudi said that plans for vaccination activities were not communicated to the wider public.

Information is only disseminated through a few institutions or organizations that know key populations.

“Because the vaccine is limited, it is prioritized for key populations. That’s why registration is not disseminated through the media, but through HIV, STI service centers and NGOs that reach key populations,” he said.

As previously reported, seven cases of monkey pox or monkeypox found in the South Jakarta area.

“In South Jakarta, seven cases (of monkey pox) were found,” said Head of the South Jakarta Health Sub-Department Yudi Dimyati when confirmed, Tuesday (31/10/2023).

Yudi said that cases of monkey pox were spread across a number of points.

However, he could not reveal the specific point regarding the discovery of residents who were confirmed positive for monkey pox.

“At this time I cannot provide information. Because only the DKI Jakarta Health Service can issue a detailed statement,” he said.

Yudi can only confirm that all residents with confirmed cases of monkey pox have been isolated.

The seven residents who tested positive for monkey pox were isolated in two large hospitals in the capital city.

“All patients (monkeypox) have been isolated at one of the Regional General Hospitals (RSUD) in South Jakarta and the Sulianti Saroso Infectious Disease Hospital (RSPI),” he added.
