Jakarta –
The Indonesian Ministry of Health reported that as of Sunday (26/11/2023) there were a total of 59 ‘Mpox’ monkey pox patients in Indonesia. Even though monkey pox is known to have a relatively low fertility rate, one of the patients in DKI Jakarta was in serious condition.
Head of the Communications and Public Services Bureau, Dr. Siti Nadia Tarmizi, explained that the patient was a 28 year old man and had a bisexual sexual orientation. He was found to be positive for the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and was experiencing symptoms of shortness of breath.
“The patient (experienced) symptoms of a rash on 12 November after being isolated at a hospital. Then on 20 November he was referred for further treatment at Sulianti Hospital,” he explained when contacted by detikcom, Sunday (26/11/2023).
“The HIV test results are positive. We have had other tests related to immunity and are being treated for shortness of breath,” continued Dr. Nadia.
On a separate occasion, the Director of Health Surveillance and Quarantine, Ministry of Health, Dr. Achmad Farchanny Tri Adryanto, MKM reported that most mpox patients in Indonesia were recorded as coming from Jakarta. According to him, this cannot be separated from the active case search efforts carried out in the area with the support of related NGOs.
“Jakarta is actively carrying out case detection, that’s the first. Then we also communicate and coordinate closely with NGOs dealing with HIV-Aids,” he said at a press conference, Thursday (23/11).
“We also know that there are a lot of HIV-Aids cases in Jakarta. More than in other areas. That’s what causes there to be more cases in DKI than other areas,” concluded Dr Farchanny.
