JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – A DKI Jakarta resident tested positive monkey pox or monkey pox with severe symptoms.
Head of the Epidemiological Surveillance and Immunization Section of the DKI Jakarta Health Office, Ngabila Salama, said that the patient was being treated at one of the vertical referral hospitals (RS) belonging to the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemenkes RI).
“Currently there is one case of monkey pox being treated with close observation. Saturday (25/11/2023) it was referred to one of the vertical referral hospitals belonging to the Indonesian Ministry of Health,” said Ngabila in his statement, Sunday (26/11/2023).

The increase in one case of monkey pox brings the number of cases in DKI Jakarta in 2023 to 42.
Ngabila said that all the patients contracted monkey pox from sexual contact and were men aged 25-50 years.
Ngabila hopes that residents will not panic because the Indonesian Ministry of Health has provided antivirus for monkey pox.
“The Ministry of Health has swiftly provided specific antivirals for monkey pox, both vials for intravenous or infusion administration, and tablet or oral preparations,” said Ngabila.
Each patient is provided with medication for treatment for 14 to 21 days.
Although the public does not need to panic, Ngabila still urges the public to increase awareness and not underestimate monkey pox.

If anyone has symptoms of fever accompanied by watery discharge or pus on the skin or mouth, they must immediately do a monkeypox PCR swab test at the nearest community health center or hospital.
“Early detection and treatment is the key to preventing deaths from monkey pox. And don’t stigmatize those who do have symptoms or undergo treatment for monkey pox,” he said.
There are four ways to prevent monkey pox, namely as follows:
1. Avoid risky sexual relations, especially when you are sick, you should avoid sexual relations.
2. Avoid skin contact with sick people.
3. A clean and healthy lifestyle must continue, namely by wearing a mask in crowds, and washing your hands diligently with running water and soap.
4. Vaccination twice with an interval of one month for risk groups determined by the government.

Of 42 cases monkey pox in Jakarta26 of the patients have been declared cured and have finished undergoing isolation in hospital.
Meanwhile, the remaining 16 patients are still positive and are being isolated.
