Monkees vocalist Michael Nesmith has died

The Monkees was formed in the USA in 1966 to make a television series of the same name, which was also shown here at home on NRK – inspired by The Beatles.

The band has been described as the first industry-created boy band, and entered music history with songs such as “Daydream Believer”, “Last Train to Clarksville” and not least “I’m A Believer”. They were officially dissolved in 1971, but have had a number of reunions.

Nesmith was from Texas, writing songs such as “Mary, Mary”, “Circle Sky”, “Listen to the Band” and “The Girl I Knew Somewhere”.

Of the four original Monkees members, only Micky Dolenz is now left, after Davy Jones and Peter Tork died in 2012 and 2019, respectively.
