Monitor the mutation of COVID-19, the Aceh Government sends samples to Jakarta

This sample delivery aims to monitor the mutated strain of COVID-19, which has been presumed to have started to emerge with higher levels of transmission and endurance.

Banda Aceh (ANTARA) – The Aceh government stated that it had sent as many as 20 samples to the Health Research and Development Agency (Balitbangkes) of the Ministry of Health in an effort to monitor the mutation of COVID-19 in the local province.

“This sample delivery aims to monitor mutational strains of COVID-19, which have been presumed to have started to emerge with higher levels of transmission and endurance,” said the Head of the Aceh Health Office, Dr. Hanif in Banda Aceh, Saturday.

He explained that in several countries such as India and England as well as several other countries, mutations from the COVID-19 virus had been found and to anticipate this, his party had conveyed to the Governor to send samples to the Ministry of Health’s Balitbangkes in Jakarta.

“Balitbangkes sent a letter and instructed us to send samples of nasopharyngeal swab specimens and we have sent as many as 20 samples,” he said.

According to him, the Ministry of Health’s Balitbangkes letter stated that in order to monitor the mutation strain of the SARS CoV-2 virus, it is necessary to carry out intensive surveillance of the SARS CoV-2 virus genome and throughout Indonesia.

“There are also specimen samples that we send come from cases with the criteria of rapid transmission in certain communities / locations, starting to infect previously non-vulnerable groups (children), people who have been vaccinated but infected, survivors re-infected, death with comorbid diseases. other infections such as HIV, TB, and others, “he said.

Hanif added, the criteria for sent specimens were Tube VTM containing nasopharyngeal swabs, had a ct (cycle threshold) below 25, specimens were sent along with an epidemiological investigation form, specimens were sent immediately after the results of the RT PCR examination were obtained.

“So, the specimen we send is the specimen we just took,” said Hanif.
