Monique starts her column by readers of Female friend that she is sensitive to energy. The right balance in it keeps her calm and balanced. Something she now has great difficulty with. “I probably don’t need to explain that this is not the case at the moment.”
You do not have to guess why: the sudden departure of André, the storm in the media and the reception of her son weigh heavily on Monique’s shoulders and heart. “I am having a hard time, I am sad and the year as I envisioned it will be very different. Within it I have to try to find my way, day by day.”

The daily ‘power texts’ from friends, the help of her family and the support that Monique receives after the breakup, drag her through this violent period. Especially from little Dre she gets a lot of energy. “Last week he had written ‘mama’ for the first time and made a sweet drawing of a heart with it. I melted.”
“Or when he came in with a bunch of tulips in his hand and said that I am the sweetest mama in the world. Those tulips my neighbor had pressed into his hands”, she continues. “It made me cry, but it made me feel so good.”
For Monique it is clear where her priority lies: with her son. Although she doesn’t know what her future looks like now, she knows he is what really matters.
