As part of International Women’s Day which will take place this Monday 8 March, and in order to celebrate the event in Port-La Nouvelle, we had to find an unusual woman, deserving and always committed to volunteering. After having searched for a long time, it is the portrait of Monique Landry that we are going to draw.
Born in Castelsarrasin, eldest daughter of five siblings, she was already destined to take care of the little ones … Thus and throughout her life, it is towards others that she will turn.
In the 1980s, her husband Claude, Postmaster, was appointed to Sarthe. She will then run a home help service on a voluntary basis, for sick and hospitalized mothers in collaboration with the Caf du Mans. She visits families, takes care of cases and interventions.
Later, arriving in Port-La Nouvelle, she began working as a press correspondent for the newspaper L’Indépendant in 1983 and even if it was not a simple volunteering, we see that this woman of action was to get involved in the life of his village.
His dedication to the Association of Volunteer Blood Donors since 1984 can only command admiration. Spending hours on summer afternoons, under a blazing sun, sheltered by a barnum, she recorded the volunteers who came to donate blood on the seafront.
But nothing stops her ! She takes part in all the collections organized by the French Blood Establishment, before becoming president of the Nouvelle Association for eight years. Who has not seen him using his own car, decked out with loudspeakers, preaching the good word in the streets of La Nouvelle? !
But her action does not stop there and she will get closer to children as a storyteller at the early childhood center, for six years and every Wednesday morning. ! She has made hundreds of children dream through her storytelling.
In 2001, she joined the New Rotary club, the first Rotary club to accept women. ! She prepares the collections of “ My blood for others “at the beach and participates in all the humanitarian actions of the club. Successively secretary, treasurer and finally president.
And still in humanitarian action with Rotary, she will bring her support accompanied by sweets to the residents of the Ephad of the canton of Sigean (La Tramontane in Leucate, La Pinède in Villefalse, at the PLN hospital center as well as to the residents of the four A ).
A woman who has never ceased since her childhood, to be useful for others, in volunteering and humanitarian aid.
She deserved to be highlighted for this Women’s Day !
