Mexico City. The presiding magistrate of the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Branch of the Federation (TEPJF), Mónica Soto Fregoso, was elected as vice president of the Association of Electoral Magistrates of the Americas (AMEA).
The election was held during the Sixth Plenary Conference of the organization, at the proposal of representatives of three countries; His term will be one year at the end of which he will assume the presidency for the period 2025-2026.
During her speech, Soto Fregoso committed to continuing to promote the gender perspective in the electoral sphere and “keeping glass ceilings broken,” in addition to working to achieve concrete results and deepen the impact of the AMEA in the Americas and globally.
Within the framework of this meeting, the association’s strategic plan was approved and thematic commissions focused on electoral observation with a gender perspective, institutional communication, capacity building and the consolidation of strategic alliances were created.
One of the most important agreements of the conference was the adoption of joint measures to combat gender-based political violence, with emphasis on the construction of specific lines of action to confront this problem in digital spaces.
