On May 6, assemblywoman Mónica Palacios, of the Citizen Revolution party, was sanctioned by the Legislative Administration Council (CAL) with a 60-day suspension without pay. This measure was taken following a complaint of workplace harassment filed by a legislative official who worked in the National Democratic Action (ADN) bloc. The resolution, approved with five votes in favor and two against, found Palacios guilty of a serious administrative offense according to article 171 of the Organic Law of the Legislative Function.
The complaint, filed by Emilio Flor Zambrano, an ADN official, alleged that workplace harassment had begun during a session in December 2023. On that occasion, Palacios removed the microphone from another legislator and began speaking without authorization, which led to the official to request the microphone, triggering a series of events that culminated in workplace harassment.
The CAL resolution implies the suspension of Palacios’ remuneration for 60 days, in accordance with the law. The National Assembly also appointed Jorge Miranda Idrovo as his replacement during this period. (Source: The Universe)
