Even the bus driver and his passengers stopped in the middle of the road and got down to try and get some currency notes
The week couldn’t have started better for some of the people who were driving along Marbella’s motorway, near a shopping centre, when they noticed numerous €50 notes flying out of car windows and strewn across the road. And no – the bills were not counterfeit. The situation looked like a scene from a movie, but it only lasted a few minutes.
The incident took place at kilometer 181 of the A-7, near the La Cañada commercial park. Several users shared videos on social media showing vehicles stopped on the highway, including a bus, and people taking notes. One of the passengers on this bus took over 500 euros from the road.
A number of people from other cars got out of their vehicles to try to collect some of the money that was on the tarmac and had been blown away by the wind. Even the bus driver and his passengers stopped in the middle of the road and got down to try to get some currency notes. The few who managed to get their hands on the money found it to be genuine.
Police and emergency services quickly arrived at the scene. And the money – it was not a gift. Everything has its explanation, various sources told the DOI chain. Two citizens of Arab origin were traveling in the crashed car, who were carrying a bag with 20,000 euros in 50-euro notes in the car. The loud crash caused the bag to split open and bills flew out of the windows.
“Many drivers came out to collect the money that was wasted,” a Bulgarian woman living in the Spanish city told GlasNews.bg. Let the owners get theirs back, and the rest take what they can. What is not known is how much they lost and how much they were able to recover from the accident.
The National Police confirmed that they did not find objective criteria for starting an investigation after the money checks. The rightful owner of the money would have confirmed its origin.
Speculation at the time led several people to think that this might be an advertising campaign by an establishment in Marbella or a promotion.
