REED. The council meeting on October 10 was the shortest in a long time. The mandataries had to take care of the bad financial situation.
Among other things, a new market regulation was decided upon – the one currently in use dates back to 1844.
By changing the zoning and development plan for the Bahnhofstrasse/warehouse area, the city created the conditions for the warehouse to continue with its plan to develop a parking garage on the warehouse area and area Weinhäupl in collaboration with the ÖBB.
The city’s finances are likely to improve badly in the medium term: despite an increase in wages, the city is losing almost half a million euros in local tax revenue this year . This gap will become even bigger next year when some companies move to the old Kika building in Aurolzmünster.
Finance officer Elisabeth Poringer (ÖVP) had the thankless task of reporting on the finances. As a result of compulsory expenditure which is constantly increasing, the budget is currently between four and five million euros. It is “impossible, even with great efforts, to be able to meet the mandatory costs on your own.”
Dissatisfaction with the state of the country
What was unusual was the response of the mandates to be reported from the state government office on a petition from the local council of Ried, which was about allocating hours for children to integrate in educational and child care facilities.
At the request of Deputy Mayor Thomas Dim, who was a member of the state parliament on the state parliament committee that dealt with the petition, the answer was read out in full. – which is not normal, because such statements are included in the meeting documents and therefore are almost never read out, because no one in the local council wants to extend the meeting without need
This statement turned into a meaningless letter in which the department praised itself and in which Rieder’s request was not addressed at all.
Thus Dim achieved his goal: such statements are usually “announced”. This time, however, the local council decided to continue in Linz and demand a tough response.
