Money is missing in Swedbank accounts

Several Swedbank customers have reported on the problems with the bank during Thursday evening.

On the site Downdetector, people warn that money is missing and that balances are in the red. The reports began to arrive at 10.30 pm, and several customers have asked questions on Swedbank’s social media.

Late in the evening, Swedbank answered customers who asked about the problems through direct messages to the bank’s Facebook account. The responses showed that there were operational disruptions and that some balances showed errors.

This is confirmed by Ralf Bagner, press communicator at Swedbank, just before 1 p.m.

– We have an ongoing disruption that causes balances on certain accounts for certain customers to be displayed incorrectly. We are working as soon as we can to fix this and of course regret that customers have been affected, he says.

Will the money come back to the accounts?

– Our customers can and should feel secure that their money is safe with us.

At 03.30 on Friday morning, there was still no forecast for when the problem could be solved.

– We are working full time to fix the problem. We regret, of course, that this has affected our customers, says Ralf Bagner.

Elisabeth: “It’s a lot of money”

The customer Elisabeth and her partner became aware of the error when they had to pay a bill during the evening. SEK 2,000 was gone on the partner’s account. Elisabeth was missing SEK 3,600.

– It’s a lot of money when you do not know where they have gone, she says.

According to Elisabeth, the money was deducted from the accounts, after which it was transferred to her Visa card. But there the quick balance is at minus.

– It does not say that you bought something or that you made a transfer. It only says minus.

Stands minus SEK 47,000

Elisabeth is critical of the fact that the bank did not release more information.

– That you as a bank do not assume that something is happening, I think that is very strange. There is no information at all.

Another customer, who wishes to remain anonymous, suddenly has minus SEK 47,500 in the account.

– I’ve never been a minus before. And it’s not a little money. It’s awful, says the customer.

Expressen is looking for Swedbank’s press service.
