Yes, big news in the world of the art market! A (very) famous XXL painting by Claude Monet, Water Lily Pond fetched $74 million at auction in New York on November 9, or more than 69 million euros! Christie’s has hit hard again!
As a reminder, this painting, more than 2 meters wide, is part of Monet’s famous series of water lilies which brings together a total of 300 paintings (all the same…), most of which are in large or even very large format!
The latter symbolizes the last 25 years of the artist’s life, a period of experimentation during which Claude Monet attempted to create a new vision of his aquatic garden in Giverny.
