Six, six, six … A diabolical weekend for Jules Cluzel. The rider from Montluçon (Allier) in fact finished sixth in qualifying, sixth in the first race and sixth in the second race in San Juan (Argentina), on Saturday 22 and then Sunday 23 October 2022, in the tenth out of twelve rounds of the Supersport World Championship.
The race-1
Race-1, however, was turbulent for 33-year-old Bourbonnais, who will retire at the end of the season. At the handlebars of his team’s GMT-94 Yamaha, he got off to a good start and finished fifth, then gradually retreated during the nineteen laps of the track. Coming down to eleventh place with six laps to go, Jules Cluzel then accelerated to regain the starting position: sixth.
The race-2
Round two was quieter, however. The licensee of the Moto Club Montluçon has restarted well, to climb back to fifth position. He was then overtaken by the Finnish Tuuli and the Italian Manzi, but he was able to take advantage of the abandonment of another transalpine, De Rosa, to return to this famous sixth place, which he will keep until the finish line.
The general classification
In the overall standings, these two sixth places still allow Jules Cluzel to move up into the top ten. Long slowed down by the crash and injury in England in mid-July, he is now ninth (113 points).
Ahead is the inevitable Swiss Dominique Aegerter who won the two races of the weekend. More than ever leader, only one success is enough for him to win the second consecutive world title. Probably in Indonesia, November 11-13?
