Robert Gourmanel has been awarded the regional, departmental and municipal gold medal of honor for his municipal efforts since 1971.

Robert Gourmanel, dean of the municipal council of Monclar-de-Quercy, received, last Sunday, the regional, departmental, municipal medal of honor, gold level, from the hands of Senator Pierre-Antoine Lévi. “This medal honors more than fifty years of elective life, in the service of your fellow citizens and public affairs. You were born here, in Monclar-de-Quercy, on September 26, 1940 (82 years old), in the town square, on the first floor of the family home of your parents, Louis and Marie-Louise Gourmanel, butchers by profession and known by all.You grew up in Monclar with your brother and your two sisters, you completed your studies, which at the time were a good diploma , then you decided to continue your studies as an electrician in the Renon company (today Montelec), in Montauban. In 1960, at the age of just 20, you were called up for military service in the 17th Parachute Engineer Regiment at the time stationed in Castelsarrasin, you were raised to the rank of non-commissioned officer and sent to French Algeria, in the middle of the war… Patented paratrooper, with over 58 active jumps, of which the last in situ tion of the armed conflict at the 17th RGP. mother welcomes you and exclaims: ” My God, my son, what have they done to you?” You answer, very simply: “Mom, I’m here!”. You married Monique in November 1962, you resumed working at Renon, then a few years later you joined EDF, a company where you spent your entire professional career until 1994. Three children, Thierry, Valérie and Patricia, seven grandchildren ( Morgan, Marie -Julie, François, Enzo, Victor, Louis and Flavy) and three great-grandchildren make up your current family. In town hall, you were first elected city councilor in 1971, at the time mayor Roger Rignac, then first deputy alongside Jean-Paul Albert, mayor, and since then you have not stopped serving Monclar in close proximity to the life of the village… You were in charge of the tourist leisure center of Monclar-de-Quercy for which you largely contributed to its expansion. Finally, in addition to your involvement as an elected official, you were for many years president of the municipal hunting association and treasurer of the Tarn-et-Garonne hunters’ federation. She volunteer firefighter at the Monclar rescue center, for more than thirty years, with all the dedication we know you.

It was on the notes of “Monclaraise”, a local song dear to Robert Gourmanel, that the ceremony ended in the presence of a very refined audience.
