Napoli becomes the new point of reference for otolaryngology thanks to the commitment and vision of the professor Giuseppe Tortoriello, director of the complex Otolaryngology operational unit of the Monaldi hospital in Naples and President Elect of the Italian Society of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery. Since his arrival in the Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery department of the Colli Hospital, Tortoriello has brought about a decisive change, introducing cutting-edge technologies and innovative procedures, especially in the treatment of laryngeal tumors.
The second edition of the “La Cura in Orl” convention, scheduled from tomorrow to next Friday at Monaldi, represents an event of absolute importance for the national medical community. The conference will see the participation of the major Italian experts in the sector and will offer two days of Live Surgery, where the most innovative surgical techniques will be shown. It will range from the description of surgical approaches and indications regarding head and neck oncology, it will move towards the innovations in the field of cochlear implants and bone conduction systems, highlighting the central role that biology is increasingly taking on in the sinonasal world, alongside functional surgery and will open the door to multidisciplinarity, addressing borderline but increasingly current topics, such as pharyngo-laryngo-esophageal reflux and rhino-sinuso-bronchial syndrome.
The department directed by Tortoriello has already achieved important results, confirming Monaldi as a center of attraction for the treatment of oncological pathologies of the neck. «We are among the first in Southern Italy, thanks to the use of robotic surgery that I introduced, to carry out delicate oncological operations at the base of the tongue, oropharynx and hypopharynx endoscopically. Professor Tortoriello, who has held the role of head physician since 2002, has a long and prestigious career behind him, having led the ENT departments of four other Neapolitan hospitals before Monaldi. «I was the head doctor in five hospitals in Naples.
