After having carried out the general tests with the historic Grand Prix and with the Formula E ePrix, the circuit of Monaco is ready for the F1 Grand Prix that is back on the calendar after the absence in 2020 forced by the Coronavirus. The track is not new compared to the 2019 edition – there will be only one DRS zone on the starting ‘straight’ between Anthony Noghes and Sainte-Devote – won by Lewis Hamilton with the thrill on the last lap of contact with Max Verstappen at the Port Chicane. At that time the Mercedes driver was already in full control of the drivers’ standings, this year the Dutchman from Red Bull will be in Monte Carlo with 14 points to recover from the seven-time world champion.
The most famous city track in the world has often proved to be a hunting ground for Red Bulls, particularly in years when a Principality specialist such as Daniel Ricciardo was defending the colors of the Milton Keynes team. There is obviously great expectation for the landlord too Charles Leclerc, which in 2019 was the protagonist of an exciting race with overtaking at Loews against Lando Norris and at Rascasse against Romain Grosjean. The same maneuver attempted with Nico Hulkenberg, however, cost the Ferrari driver contact with the guard rail and retirement due to damage to the right suspension. The weekend was uphill for Leclerc due to the sensational elimination during Q1 due to a track that improved a lot in the final minutes in which Leclerc had remained in the pits due to incorrect calculations by the Ferrari wall, which had considered the time trial of the 1997 class sufficient to overcome the cut.
The event will be broadcast live on both Sky Sport F1 than on TV8 which will broadcast qualifying and race. FormulaPassion.it, as always, will guarantee coverage of all sessions through direct writing. As a tradition, free practice will be held on Thursdays.
