4 meetings of the 12th round of L1 were held this Sunday from 3 p.m. They saw Monaco win in Nîmes, and Lens stumble against Angers.
After the Lyon – Reims match, which saw the Gones win without too much difficulty, four league matches took place this Sunday. AS Monaco was notably out, and managed to secure the victory which returned it to the podium (3-0). RC Lens could also have approached the leading teams, but lost on their land against Angers (1-3). Brest struck a nice blow by going to win in Metz (2-0). Finally, Montpellier won in pain against Lorient (1-0).

AS Monaco on its way
Victorious in its last three meetings, the formation of Niko Kovac was keen to continue by welcoming Nîmes at home. The Monegasques have not failed in their task. Always so dashing, they managed to get the upper hand on the Crocs. Young Sofiane Diop showed his team the way forward, before Gelson Martins and the inevitable Kevin Volland added to the bill in the second half. With a lot of panache and personality, Monaco therefore ensured its 7th success of the year.
Undefeated at home since last August, FC Metz was surprised by Stade Brestois. The Garnets did not have their usual performance in this game. But, it is also necessary to underline the merit of Finistériens. Irvin Cardona was the hero of this meeting by signing a double (12th and 64th). Without the stops by Alexandre Oukidja, the addition could have been even heavier for Metz. By winning, Brest goes back to the first half of the ranking.
So brilliant in their stronghold of Bollaert since their rise in the elite, the Lensois stalled this Sunday against Angers. The promoted had the grip on the debates, but the opening of the opposing score totally surprised them. It was Mathias Pereira who put them at fault with a remarkable 25-meter strike. A real gem. The Sang et Or still managed to retort to this achievement, through Arnaud Kalimuendo, but it was the SCO who had the last word in this match. Stéphane Bahoken scored 2-1 in the 49th, before Pierrick Capelle bends all the suspense in the stoppage time of the game.
Montpellier does not stop anymore
Finally, Montpellier took the measure of Lorient at Moustoir. With the wind in its sails at the moment, the Pailladins took advantage of their good momentum to undermine the Merlus. To win, they only needed one goal and it was Skuletic’s work. Note that Teji Savanier missed a penalty. Four wins in a row, this had not happened at MHSC since spring 2016.
In the standings, Paris and Lyon keep their first two places, but Monaco (3rd) and Montpellier (4th) respectively double Lille and Marseille. The LOSC can however regain the podium in case of success this Sunday evening against Saint-Etienne.
