The former CDA member is seen by panel members as an expert, honest, reliable and strong woman. In addition, it emerges that people think she has a strong and own opinion, which makes people wonder whether she is a team player.
37 percent of Dutch voters indicate that they have confidence in Keijzer as a politician. That is less than the confidence in Van der Plas (55 percent), Yesilgöz (49 percent) and Omtzigt (69 percent). Keijzer does score higher than Timmermans (24 percent) and Wilders (29 percent).
When it comes to voters who prefer BBB, confidence is significantly higher. 71 percent of the people who considered voting for BBB in the parliamentary elections in recent months say they trust Mona Keijzer.
New prime minister?
With Keijzer’s candidacy, there is also a chance that she will become the new Prime Minister of the Netherlands. 25 percent of Dutch voters think that Keijzer would be a good prime minister for the Netherlands. That is almost as much as Timmermans and twice as much as Caroline van der Plas herself. Only Yeşilgöz stands out: 42 percent of the participants think she would make a good prime minister.
Keijzer scores more than twice as good as fellow party member Caroline van der Plas, who does not consider herself suitable as prime minister. “So it doesn’t seem like a bad move for BBB,” says pollster Gijs Rademaker of RTL News.
BBB attracts voters
The return of Keijzer may also provide BBB with extra voters. When asked ‘Does Mona Keijzer ensure that you are more or less inclined to vote BBB?’, it is clear that voters from the ‘further right’ in particular are enthusiastic about Keijzer.
An eighth of the voters who voted for PVV in the 2021 parliamentary elections are more inclined to vote BBB in the upcoming elections due to Keijzer’s arrival. With JA21 voters this concerns a quarter of the voters and with Forum for Democracy Voters it seems to be even a third. This effect is less visible for other parties.
Accountability
The survey was conducted on September 1, 2023, among more than 14,000 members of the RTL Nieuwspanel. After weighting, it is representative of five variables, namely: age, gender, education, employment and political preference. The RTL Nieuwspanel has more than 35,000 members.
