Indonesian women’s singles Kusuma Wardani’s daughter (Putri KW) had tears in her eyes after winning in the first round Indonesia Masters 2023.
He could not hold back his emotion when he recounted his family’s struggles after winning over the representative of Japan, Aya Ohori in a fierce match through a rubber game 21-17, 23-25, 23-21 at Istora GBK, Wednesday (25/1). Putri’s victory was inseparable from the presence of her family at Istora Senayan.
“I don’t want to disappoint the supporters who have watched it, and also because there is a papa who has gone far from home to watch it. I don’t want to disappoint papa,” said Putri sobbing at the press conference.
The athlete from South Tangerang was unable to stop her tears when she recounted her parents’ struggle to support her as an athlete.
“I have been with my father since childhood, from the first time I played too. [Kami] ride a motorbike in the rain, it’s hot too with papa. My struggle with my father,” said Putri.
“Papa has been watching since yesterday, took leave. Papa came from Pamulang, earlier there was Papa’s sister and mother. Yesterday there were five of them with Mama and the others,” Putri said.
He expressed his gratitude to his parents for being so supportive of his career as an athlete. Family is one of his main motivations at this time.
“Dad just said, when I was at the club he had a hard time but didn’t talk to me. Now I can help daddy, I’m happy, I don’t want to disappoint daddy,” said Putri.
