He New York Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) announced the launch of a free online course to explain what contemporary art is, available worldwide through the website https://es.coursera.org/moma.
The workshop, according to MoMA in a statement, offers an “in-depth” look at more than 70 works in the museum’s collection dating from 1980 to the present, with a special emphasis on art produced in the last decade.
Students will be able to hear directly from artists, architects and designers from all over the world about their creative processes, materials and inspiration, reported the Spanish news agency Efe.
The course was organized around five axes: media, television and the internet, territories and migratory movements, materials, and the production of art or power; themes to be explored through works of art that can be viewed in 3D or made with artificial intelligence.
Students will be able to see previously unreleased films by Sheila Hicks, Arthur Jafa, Pope L., and Rael San Fratello, who are currently showing at MoMA; listen to more than 30 audios and read interviews with artists from the museum’s collection such as Beatriz González, Xiao Lu, Dayanita Sighn or Amanda Wlliams.
“Students will develop a deeper understanding of the practices of artists and how they respond to the issues and issues of our time,” MoMA said in the statement.
