Mom of two dies after ‘food intolerance’ turned out to be cancer

A mother of two who was told she had a food intolerance died of terminal cancer two days after her son’s first birthday.

Claire Young, of Warrington, died of bowel cancer on February 1, at the age of 42.

She leaves behind her husband Bobby Young, 45, her sons Bobby Jr, six, and Ollie, one, her mother Angela Thompson, sister Joanne Gill and uncle Anthony Gallop.

Claire first went to the doctor in 2018, but her symptoms were initially attributed to a food intolerance.

It wasn’t until two years later she was referred for more tests, and on August 3 of last year, Claire received the devastating news that she had stage four bowel cancer that had also spread to her liver.

Age 42- The old woman’s dying wish was for her friends and family to raise awareness about bowel cancer and misdiagnoses in young people.

This is something they are determined to do, starting with a sponsored walk on Sunday to raise money for Bowel Cancer UK.

Claire’s sister, Joanne Gill, told ECHO: “When she was diagnosed, they said she couldn’t get any treatment and that she literally had weeks to live, which was hard for us to believe.

“He looked fit and good and for someone to turn around and say you’re going to die in a few weeks, we were like ‘what? ‘”

After being referred to different doctors, Claire received palliative chemotherapy and then underwent an immunotherapy trial.

But when her condition deteriorated further in January, she was released from hospital and spent the last eight days of her life at home with her family.

Joanne said: “She told us when she got home when her treatment was not working“ Do you get involved in any way you can for my children and raise awareness about what happened? ‘

“And ‘if that prevents a family from going through what we are going through, that is what I am bearing. ‘”

On Sunday, more than 100 people will complete a socially sponsored walk from Claire’s home in Manley to Delamere Forest and back to raise funds and awareness. Summary ends.
