This year, the car dealer Moller Auto’s market for up to seven-year-old cars has grown by approximately 20% compared to 2022, Izīda Gerkena, executive director of the Moller Auto group of companies in the Baltics, informed the agency LETA.
The company’s financial results in Latvia show that in October of this year, turnover in the used car segment increased by 87% compared to the corresponding period last year, while in November it increased by 57%.
At the same time, the financial results of “Moller Auto” in the Baltics show that in October the turnover in the used car segment was 65% higher than last October, and in November – 39% higher than last year’s corresponding month.
“The past two months this year mark the company’s records in the sale of used cars, and the significant indicators can be explained by the desire of buyers to buy newer and newer used cars,” adds Gerkena.
The company also informs that the most purchased used cars so far in December this year were “Volkswagen Passat”, “Škoda Kodiaq” and “Volkswagen Tiguan”, while in November and October the most purchased were “Volkswagen Tiguan”, “Volkswagen Golf” and “Volkswagen Passat”.
Gerkena also points out that this year “Moller Auto” significantly expanded its used car offer – in addition to “Volkswagen” and “Audi” brands such as “Skoda” and “Volvo” are also available in larger volumes.
Buyers’ interest is said to have been boosted by changes in the procedure for calculating companies’ light vehicle tax. As a result, business customers are increasingly interested in purchasing a plug-in hybrid car.
Forecasting the demand in the second-hand car market in 2024, Gerkena states that the segment will maintain stable growth, as buyers in Latvia are happy to choose used cars, valuing them equally highly as new cars.
